Colorado Scavenger Hunt
Last September Anna and I took off on a week long scavenger hunt in Colorado looking for Wood
and Priest family trails. We went to Rico (hi Uncle Will); Crawford (visited TE 1, Laurena, Lottie & Jim Arnold) and got a tour of the Wood Ranch from a lovely lady, Mary Dufon.
Then over the mountains to Canyon City where the Colorado State Penitentiary is to see where Henry Priest spent his time.
We continued to Colorado Springs looking for traces of the Priest homesteads. While in Colorado Springs, we stopped at the roadside grave site of Henry Harkins and Henry Priest in Deadman's Canyon along route 115.
While in Colorado Springs we also went to Evergreen Cemetery and located to the grave site of Mary Priest, Henry's mother. Thank you Find-a-Grave! We also went to Cripple Creek. Henry and Laurena were in Ravenshill, which is now part of the huge Anaconda mine. Talking to the Museum curator and the Sheriff's office we got some great insight into how life would have been for them.
We also found part of Lewis Priest homestead near Fountain. We have yet to discover when Lewis died and where he's buried.
All in all, a good fact finding trip. And I'm sure there's a cousin's trip in the future!
